Build the Home You've Always Imagined
A custom home is the one project where the site shapes everything: how the house sits, where the light comes from, which rooms face the road and which face the trees.
We walk your lot before we draw a single line, because a plan that ignores the land produces a house that never quite feels right, no matter how good the finishes are. Brian spent years running construction for a national builder that delivered thousands of homes, which means the things that go sideways on a build are things we've already seen and planned around.
You'll work with our family from that first site walk through the day you get the keys, with design, engineering, permitting, and construction all under one contract. We build a small number of homes at a time, on purpose, because the alternative is the kind of volume work we deliberately left behind.
Building a house together is a long commitment for both of us, and we take that seriously before we take it on.
How Long Does It Take to Build a Custom Home?
Most custom homes take twelve to eighteen months from the first design meeting to move-in, and roughly a third of that happens before anyone breaks ground.
Design runs two to four months. That's site analysis, floor plans, elevations, and the specification work that decides cabinets, windows, fixtures, and finishes. Homes with unusual sites or complex structural requirements sit at the longer end.
Permitting and engineering add one to three months depending on your jurisdiction. Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, the Union County towns, and the South Carolina counties all move at different speeds, and this is the phase homeowners find most frustrating because so little of it is within anyone's control.
Construction typically runs eight to twelve months. Foundation, framing, and dry-in move quickly and visibly. The middle stretch, when mechanical, electrical, and plumbing go in behind the walls, looks like nothing is happening even though it's the most consequential work in the build.
The single biggest thing you can do to protect the schedule is finish your selections before construction starts. Every decision left open becomes a decision made under pressure later, and long-lead items like windows, cabinetry, and appliances have to be ordered months before they're installed.
Frequently Asked Questions About Custom Homes
- How much does it cost to build a custom home in Charlotte?expand_more
- Most of our custom homes fall between $250,000 and $750,000. That figure covers construction on land you already own, so it doesn't include the lot itself. Site conditions matter more than most people expect: grading, septic or sewer connection, well access, and long driveways can all move the number before a single wall goes up.
- Can you build from plans I already have?expand_more
- Yes. If you've worked with an architect or purchased a plan set, we'll review it, price it, and build it. We'll also tell you honestly if something in the drawings is going to cause problems on your particular site.
- What's included in the price you quote?expand_more
- Everything in the written scope of work, with allowances clearly identified where selections haven't been finalized. We'd rather show you an allowance and explain it than bury a number and surprise you later.

Hear From Your Neighbors
"My husband and I hired 7Acre to complete a renovation to our outdoor living space and convert our garage storage room to a pool bathroom. Along the way, we had two bathrooms that needed to be renovated as well, and they were happy to assist. Throughout the course of our project, the 7Acre team was very responsive, respectful, and outstanding at communicating. It was a pleasure working with Brian Sr, Brian Jr, and John. We couldn’t be happier with what they’ve done with our house. They will be our go-to team for any work we need completed moving forward. I highly recommend them for all sorts of projects!”

Working with Brian Sr., Brian Jr and John made life easy for us, giving my wife and I peace of mind that the work was being done professionally and with all the care and attention to detail required to deliver a superior product."

"I interviewed several contractors for my project. At our first meeting, Brian Sr. was very clear that he wanted me to be happy with the results and get exactly what I wanted from the renovation. He and his team delivered on his promise. The first floor was pretty much gutted. I have a gorgeous kitchen, living room with added architectural details, reconfigured primary bedroom and bath. Brian Jr. was on top of all the details as the renovation progressed and went above and beyond to make the project run smoothly. I love my new home and couldn’t be happier."

"This is the second time I’ve used this team. Not only do they do excellent work, but they’ve actively defined the design work to fit my particular home vision. Their team is prompt, respectful, and does excellent work. Management (the owners) stay engaged with the project, supervise the work, and check in constantly on the project status, any needed changes, and, most importantly, my satisfaction with the work! They are definitely my team of choice. I have recommended them to other friends who’ve also been thrilled with their work and, importantly, with their ethics!"

"7Acre fixed a leak in a 2nd-floor shower that was visible in the kitchen below. They found the leak, fixed the bathroom tile and the kitchen ceiling. John and Brian were professional and polite, keeping us informed of every step along the way. We will call them again!"
