Rework the Smallest Room With the Most Impact
A bathroom is the smallest space we work in and the most complicated one to build.
Waterproofing, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, tile, and stone all have to come together correctly in a room the size of a walk-in closet, and nearly every one of those layers ends up hidden the moment the job is finished.
That's why bathrooms go wrong more often than any other room in a house, and why we're particular about the parts nobody will ever see. We build the pieces our clients actually ask for, steam showers, heated floors, curbless entries, full body shower systems, on top of substrate that will still be dry twenty years from now.
Design and construction happen under one roof here, so the tile layout drawn during design is the tile layout that gets installed. It's detailed work, and it rewards taking the time to do it properly.
Should You Replace Your Tub With Your Shower?
In a primary bathroom, usually yes. Most homeowners who tell us they haven't taken a bath in years are right to convert, and the footprint a tub occupies almost always makes a better shower than it does a tub nobody uses.
The exception is worth knowing before you commit. If it's the only tub in the house, keep one somewhere. Families with small children genuinely need it, and buyers looking at a home with no bathtub at all tend to hesitate, particularly in the family neighborhoods where we do most of our work. A hall or secondary bath is usually the right place for it to live.
What the conversion actually involves comes down to where the drain sits. Tub drains and shower drains are rarely in the same spot, so the floor generally has to open regardless of how simple the swap looks from above. That's also the moment to decide about a curbless entry, because the framing is already exposed and adding it later means opening everything a second time.

- How much does a bathroom remodel cost in Charlotte?expand_more
- Most of our bathroom projects fall between $75,000 and $250,000. Tile and stone selections, whether the layout moves, and how much of the plumbing has to be relocated drive that number far more than the room's square footage. A primary bath and a hall bath in the same house can differ by a factor of three.
- Can you build a curbless shower in an existing house?expand_more
- Usually, yes. It depends on what's under the floor, since the subfloor generally needs to be recessed to keep the finished tile level with the rest of the room. We'll know after we open a small section during design, and we'll tell you before you commit to the look.
- Is a wet room a good idea?expand_more
- It can be, particularly in a bathroom where a separate tub and shower would eat the whole floor plan. Putting both behind one glass panel saves space and looks deliberate, though it does mean the whole area needs waterproofing and the room needs to stay warm enough to be comfortable.
- Do you handle aging-in-place design?expand_more
- Yes, and it's worth planning for even if it's years away. Curbless entries, wider door openings, comfort-height fixtures, and blocking in the walls for future grab bars all cost very little to include now and a great deal to add later.
- What should we spend the most on?expand_more
- The things you can't see. Waterproofing, plumbing, and ventilation are the least interesting lines on an estimate and the ones we never reduce, because a leak behind new tile undoes everything above it. After that, put the money into the shower and the vanity, since those take the daily use.
